The bell rang for the puppies to wake up for their morning walks, baths, and feeding. Ever so slowly little multi-colored puppies and dogs got up, and stretched, while one lazily fell back to sleep. What did we call her? Sandra—because she loves to play around in the sand box outside, Sandra doesn't know why we simply didn't just call her Sandy, or Sand Queen. It just seemed to plain to us so the name Sandra seemed more like her.
The biggest dog came back and licked her face over and over until she finally moved. Thank goodness too, if the woman came back to check if all dogs were gone and one was just lying there, she'd have an emotional breakdown. Sandra raced through the pack of puppies and dogs to the breakfast that was awaiting her. "Oh boy, what's for breakfast today, huh? Huh!?" She skipped with glee. A slightly taller puppy was brushed aside by the young puppies' strong strength and agility. He began to bark at her by then realized; she was only a baby, like himself.
What did we call this young boy? Murky, because he liked to roll around in the dirt so then his mother could lick him clean. He liked how his mother treated him like he was better than the rest. He was a spoiled young Beagle had a dark coat and a white under belly. His nose was dark and his eyes were a shade of hazel.
While Sandra was a Shetland sheepdog had a slightly lighter coat with a white stripe on her paws, tip of tail, forehead, around her neck. Her nose was a shade of black while her eyes were a calm bright brown. Compared to Dirt, Sandra is a bright, warm puppy, but can be selfish. Murky had a very laid-back attitude. He won't bark much and loves to sleep. A sort of Tsundere and yandere pairing if the other pets could keep out of the situation as much, but Sandra…she was also an adventurous type! Who would have known that?
Once she went to the park for a daily walk and got lost while running around admiring the beauty there was to see. Another time she went to a pet store to buy cute things for her to wear and show off. After the woman let her go, she bolted down and ran around to find the perfect thing, but there were too many so she brought them all to the woman. She was greedy child yes, but what she wanted ultimately was to have a new family, one where she wouldn't have to have the same old faces and the same old bedrooms.
After breakfast she and a few other puppies went off for a walk in the park again. This time, the lady let them off the leash and allowed them to run around, while she sat and talked with other people and fed birds. Oh how that woman loved animals. Sandra pulled at the other puppies' collars and yanked them into the sandbox. Not to play—but to plan.
"Okay," she began, "raise your paw if you wanna be owned by someone."
The others just looked at her with a twisted confused face. "Whaaaat?" a little baby, barely 4 months old, shouted.
"I'm tired of the same everyday life puppies! We're gonna be like mommy and daddy if we let this keep happening! We need our own owners! Now I've got a plan…we slip from the park while Ms. Jets is distracted!" Murky couldn't believe his ears. To run away from a place they have been since birth? Is she nuts? Was there sand in her ears?
"True…Mommy is a bit of a no-fun-mommy" another puppy called out.
"That's not right" Murky finally said standing up from his corner of the sandbox. "So were running away from the one place we would call home…but where would we go? How could we take care of ourselves? We aren't anything more than babies with a dream to see more of the world."
Sandra gave him an angry growl. "Hey! I'm tired of living the same days over and over again! We are almost old enough to be grownups! We'll do just fine! Can't you trust me?" her eyes suddenly went from angry to sad in a blink of an eye. She looked as If she were about to cry but…all he did was doubt her trust.
The word that came to mind was "trust". She trusted him enough not to tell mommy or daddy. His heart broke with that realization. That she could trust him enough to cry in front of him was the greatest form of flattery that he could imagine. It felt terrible.
"Okay" he said finally shaking his head. He knew what he was about to say was something he would regret for the rest of his life. "I'll go with you. But I'm not responsible for what will happen to us."
"Hehe, yay! I knew you'd believe the ol' cryin' trick!" the girl snickered. Murky gave himself a mental slap in the face. "So let's go!"
And one by one the dogs made their way out into the open world. To Sandra, she felt freedom—something she thought she had when she was 5 months old. To Murky, he felt ashamed of the group they were, just looking blindly at the world around them.
"To…somewhere I guess!" Smack! A mental face palm from Murky, he knew this was a bad idea. As quick as they came into the new world, they got lost. A group of puppies, lost at streets and corners. Who knew what risks could have come? But as Sandra carefully made her way around on the streets, she showed everyone what was what, and how things were done though how she thought was true. She lead them all, but Murky of course, to believe that they all believed in one super puppy that is in the air or the sky or something, about an angel or whatever.
Then a young boy scooped up one of them, and began to squeeze the poor baby in his grasp. "Mama, it's so cute can we keep it can we?" he begged and pleaded. And automatically Sandra knew that she had a new home with all her friends. She turned back and gave Murky the "I told you I was right" face. He turned away with his eyes half opened and his nose high.
"Yes we can, Christen, but only one of them." And suddenly, Murky looked back at Sandra with the "I told you this was a stupid idea" face. Sandra's eyes were fixed on the woman's' face, her mouth, her mouth was opened wide like a fish. Only keep one of them. She barely knew them all by name alone, but losing them wouldn't be easy enough.
It didn't register to Sandra that once a puppy was owned by its own owner, it's be gone forever possibly never to meet again. Knowing this now tore her heart up into little shreds. Murky began to growl at the boy and bark, saliva spilling out while his nose was wrinkled and squeezed together. He was such a good actor; it was as if he had rabies. The boy dropped the puppy and ran behind his mother, who quickly picked her son up and ran as fast as she could away.
After wiping his face, Murky looked at Sandra's discontent look and a put. Murky wished for a sweet comfort of his bed. "We might be living the same thing every single day, but it's better than losing the people we have come to love." The sort of Tsundere pup said with his head held semi-high and fixed in Sandra's direction. "Besides, who will treat us any better than our owners right now? You know mom can't be beat when it comes to cleaning us!"
"But who do we get back?" Sandra asked her voice I bit high. "I didn't keep track!"
"Easy…Just follow me. I know a shortcut." And with that, the followed the boy back to the park, where mommy and daddy and Ms. Jets were running about looking for them, and finally, mommy barked their names in joy. Soon daddy and Ms. Jets came! Wasn't it good to see their faces again? Murky wanted to blurt out. But he didn't want to spoil the reunion. "Home" was the only word to come to mind. There is no place like home. No matter how old it is or how tired you get of it. You'll always find your way back home somehow.
